Jun. 17, 2007 ~ Sunshine

Birds are singing, the sun is shining, and the grass glitters with a heavy dew. That grass grew about an inch since yesterday. Tis lovely, no doubt about it.

Yesterday's trip to the store was an adventure. The rain finally stopped about 4:00 p.m., so I headed to Wal-Mart. The traffic lights were out in town. Not flashing red, just out. Wal-Mart was closed, because their power was out, too. The gas station was closed for the same reason. The grocery store was open, though. They have a generator for use in emergencies. It powers the cash registers, and a very few lights. It was pretty dark in there. The frozen food was all ruined, as the power had been out many hours. They were selling milk and dairy products, though. Some people were even buying them. Uh, not me. No thanks. They did have a few bags of ice in the milk area (an open shelf arrangement, no doors or cabinets), but it was not enough to do much good. The dairy items were not cool. Not hot, but not cool. So, no thanks. I don't know what they did about the meat, as I didn't go that far into the store, but I wouldn't have bought any meat, either. I bought fresh fruit, vegetables, and a few canned items.

Here's the thing. Both stores lost power for a number of hours. Now that they have power back, are they going to try to sell their affected dairy, meat and frozen goods? You wouldn't think they would, but you also wouldn't think a store would be selling room temperature milk, either. We may drive to the city to do some grocery shopping today, if Husband gets home at a decent hour. We could go out for a nice Father's Day dinner and then go shopping afterwards. Sounds good.

For now, I am enjoying the sunshine!
