Jan. 21, 2007 ~ Sunshine and cloudy days

Today it is absolutely beautiful outside, with blue skies, sunshine, and a temperature of 61 degrees. Funny how cloudy days make us long for rain, and rainy days make us dream of the sun. It's good that we have some of each, it makes us more appreciative of just how fortunate we are when the weather finally changes.

We had more rainy days until this morning, so today we washed Meadow's damp bedding and hung her bed on the clothesline to air out, along with her freshly washed and dried blanket, which still smells very doggy after two washings. She doesn't seem to mind, though, being as she's a dog! In a little while she and I are going to walk down to the big pond. Did I tell you that both ponds overflowed? They did! And that's not a bad thing, in fact it's very good. Even with almost 14 inches of rain so far in January, it is still not enough to break the drought, but still, everything is soggy, squishy, and wet. Roads were washed out. Our road is not in such great shape, and I hope it holds up.

I debated writing about this until it was a sure thing, but nothing is ever one hundred percent certain, so here goes. Soldier Boy (who is no longer an ACTUAL Soldier Boy, but still, that's his name) has accepted a job with a contractor and will be going to Iraq fairly soon. He has a month of training and then he said he guessed he could leave for Iraq anytime after that. Here's what I know, which isn't saying much. He's going to be working at a compound, somewhere, teaching something to someone. He'll be a trainer, but I don't know who he will be training or what he will be teaching them. Perhaps Son doesn't know, either, or possibly he thinks it best that I don't know. Maybe he's not supposed to say. Anyway.

We have known this was a possibility for some time, so we were not surprised to hear that it was official. Sort of official. I guess it's not really official-official until he gets on a plane. And who knows, things change. He could change his mind and decide to stay right here on American soil. Really. Or the company could lay people off or decide to keep some of them stateside. That could happen, too. I'm almost positive.
