Dec. 16, 2004 ~ Always something

Rained dripped gently from the roof when we awoke this morning. We drove to town in the fog and drizzle and cold, and dropped the car off for repairs. It will take however long it takes, but we hope it's not too terribly long. College Boy will be afoot for the week or two the car is in the hospital. Poor boy. He removed his expensive college parking tag from the vehicle for safekeeping, and apparently it fell from his pocket at some point in the day. We looked everywhere at the house and in the truck, and it is nowhere to be found. We called all the places where we stopped and shopped... no luck. One sweet young lady even went so far as to search through the store's trash! She volunteered -- I would never have asked anyone to do that -- and we were grateful for her effort. We left our phone number at the various stores, and perhaps someone will turn it in. I kinda doubt it. But such is life. Son was so down in the dumps, feeling foolish for having lost it. I told him about a couple of valuable things I had lost, and how I'd felt bad at the time, too, but these things happen. We did our best to find it. Unless it turns up, we will have to pay full price for another one. Oh, well!

More phone calls today, people wanting details and information. A friend said that this will all be over soon. Unfortunately, it will not. It's only just beginning. It takes a long time to say good-bye, to tie up loose ends, and without saying too much, there are legal issues here which could cause complications. Not for me, except in a peripheral way, and I hope to stay completely out of it.

As my father-in-law used to say, it's always something.
