Jan. 14, 2007 ~ And then the rains came...

In the past 36 hours we have had almost 7.5 inches of rain. There has been at least one water rescue in our community. I can remember one day, years ago, when we had 13 inches of rain in a two day period. It washed out a lot of roads, and otherwise caused a lot of damage. Rivers overflowed their banks. As we have had severe drought for the past couple of years, the rivers and lakes are still quite low, or were until today. Who knows, now. That said, on last night's news it was reported that the nearby city (where Husband works) only received 3/10ths of an inch, while we had already recorded more than 4 inches. So it will be interesting to watch tonight's weather report and see what the area totals are.

Weather can be pretty boring, I guess, but not in Texas. And especially not if you are a farmer or rancher. Our little magnolia tree is trying to bloom, but it is going to be in for quite a shock when the temperatures drop below freezing tonight. They're predicting a chance of freezing rain and icy roads. If that happens, I'm staying home.

We shall see what tomorrow brings.
