Sept. 30, 2006 ~ Is there a mecho in here?

Is there a mecho in here? What's a mecho, you may wonder? It's when one hears the sound of a cow mooing in the woods, and the cow is actually mooing in the pasture. While in the dusty pasture formerly known as the hay meadow, Sarah Jane gave birth to a heifer calf late this afternoon. She was tired of being in the meadow and wanted a drink from the pond in the other pasture, but her baby was too new and wobbly to stand. So Sarah ran to and fro, mooing at her child to stand up, stand up! And a split second after she mooed, a phantom cow mooed from the woods. Hence the "mecho." Moo-echo. It was fun to listen to; I couldn't help but smile.

Little Heifer still couldn't stand and it was getting dark. Sarah Jane was getting frantic to leave the pasture and be with the herd. So Husband did what any good farmer would do. He picked up the calf and put her in the bed of the pick-up, and drove her to the proper spot. Sarah followed grumpily along, all the while complaining loudly. Loosely translated from the bovine, I believe she said something along the lines of, "WHAT are you doing with MY BABY?!!! How dare you! Stop this instant, and give her back to me!"

Mother and child are safely with the herd now, and all should be well. Husband said there is no calf-slime in the truck, as Mama had already licked her dry. Whew.

Husband is going to help our friend rake hay tomorrow afternoon. It will give Husband great pleasure to be of assistance to someone who always selflessly helps others.

It's early but I'm tired so am heading to bed. Hope you have a lovely weekend.
