Jan. 20, 2003 ~ Furry coats

This weekend Husband burned brush piles in the woods. This is an all-day event, as one must literally stay right there, tending the fires so they don't spread. He started early and stayed late, and I took lunch out there to him. Yesterday he had lain his coat across the barn door, and a couple of cows were poking around at it, checking it out. They soon lost interest, but then two calves stepped up and started nosing around at it. One of them seemed to be particularly interested in the soft, furry lining. Maybe it reminded him of some kind of an animal, or maybe it had an interesting smell... who knows. But he sure seemed curious. He nosed around and poked around, and next thing we knew that calf had somehow gotten the coat draped acroos his back. He was NOT interested in wearing a coat! He backed up in a hurry, scooting as fast as he could, then he put his head down and shook and shook, wiggling every which way. When that didn't work, he started hopping and bucking, till the coat eventually slid to the ground. This whole thing just cracked us up! Clearly, we need to get out more. That was our entertainment for the day.

I'm up early this morning. Already wrote a letter to Soldier Boy and printed off an email from a friend (to send to Son). College Boy has been writing a program for one of his clases, and he's been hogging, er... using the computer pretty much every waking moment. Thought I'd get my time in while he's still asleep. Now I need to get out there and feed the beasties.

There's a funeral to attend in a little while, so I'd better get busy.
