Sept. 23, 2002 ~ He kept saying

that I was going to LOVE my birthday present; he was sure of it. No doubt in his mind. It was a done deal, according to College Boy. And he was right! He gave me Eva Cassidy's "Imagine" CD. She's one of my favorite artists, and the album contains songs such as "It Doesn't Matter Anymore" and "Danny Boy," along with John Lennon's "Imagine." What a voice that woman had! The acoustic guitar brings to mind coffee house days of years past, singing and playing and having a good old time. And Sunday nights at the Rubaiyat. Boy, that's been a while. If you had told me then that I would be here now, a quiet farm girl who spends her days with horses and cows, I would have rolled my eyes and assumed you'd had one too many. Or quite a few too many. Or perhaps you needed an escort back to the "home." Times change... people change... and sometimes those changes are for the best.

I was a wild child. Ask anyone who knew me then, if you can find any of them. Most burned out quickly and are gone. But isn't that how it goes? I chose another path, made a conscious decision to turn away from self-destruction, toward a simpler life. Married a country boy, became a country girl, and lived happily ever after... more or less. Nothing is really quite that easy, but all in all, this is a pretty good place to be. If I could turn back the hands of time and do things differently, I don't think I would.

Boy, do I ever digress! We used to call it rambling. ANYway, I do love music, especially folk music, though it sometimes brings back memories and what-ifs and so on. We all have those, don't we?

At forty-seven, I'm well on my way to being a grown-up. Maybe. But I'm not promising anything.
