Jun. 28, 2002 ~ If a calf

can be beautiful, then this brand new baby of Bonnie Sue's is simply that -- beautiful. She's deep, dark red, with white on her face, belly, back legs, tummy, and one ear. Goodness, but she's big. Not in a bad way, because we don't want huge newborn calves. If they're too big, it's hard for the cows to deliver them, and complications can arise. No, this one looks like she was born a teenager. Long and lean, long legs, long frame... just long everything. I stood and watched as she nursed this morning, and there was this overwhelming feeling that I was looking at the future. That baby is the one we've been waiting for, the spittin' image of her mother, who is such a beauty. And her mama is nine years old, which means she's getting along in years. I can almost see, several years on down the line, when this new little baby is all grown up, with a calf of her own by her side.

This one needs a special name, so I'm going to have to think about it for a while.
