The Farm

Mar. 19, 2002 ~ "Stop all the clocks..."

If you were hoping for a nice, happy entry about cats or cows or sunshine and good times, you might want to check back another time.

Today has been very hard. What to write... what to leave out?

One of my husband's friends... his 14-year-old son recently died. He was their only child, and the only grandchild on one side of the family. Their whole world revolved around this boy, and now the world has stopped spinning.

Tonight's funeral home visit was wrenching. Some things are probably best left unsaid. But tonight, I think an awful lot of children, young and not so young, were surprised when their parents came home and hugged their necks, or called, voices thick with emotion, to say "I love you."

The services will be held tomorrow at our town's largest church, which has a seating capacity of 700. I suspect it will be standing room only.

We came back from the funeral home to a message we'd been dreading... my sister-in-law has lung cancer. They will know more tomorrow.

Every phone call has brought bad news today.

That's probably enough for now.
