Sept. 19, 2001 ~ Cheating a little

Adding several entries at once and back-dating them. Well, since there are no rules, I'm not sure that it's actually cheating.

Pepper is worse, it seems, and there is no explanation. Susan has done tests and more tests, and we are at a loss to know what is making him so ill, but he is rapidly losing weight and appears depressed. I have a hard time when animals or very small children are sick, because they are so helpless to explain or complain or let us know what is wrong with them.

There are such serious problems going on in our world today -- it almost doesn't seem right to be so sad about the illness of one small cat. But I get up during the night to check on him, to try to get him to eat, to talk to him or stroke his soft fur. Yesterday was bad; this cat actually gets ill just from going to the vet. He's so easily upset and stressed out that he usually hides for a long time afterwards. Yesterday was no exception. Today he came out from his spot behind the living room curtains and is in his usual spot on his afghan. Each of our housecats has his own afghan; Pepper's is on a bookcase right beside the bedroom window. When it gets too warm, he moves to a spot out of the sunshine, on another bookcase. I like for him to be here where I can see him. I'm even watching him breathe, counting his breaths per minute. You know how mothers are.
